After returning from our encounter with the Grell in the tomb of Forgehome we met with Storgrim(&/)Storvik and collected the bounty that was promised. We were given more precise directions and a shorter (but riskier) route to Maelbrathyrh that lead down a sheer cliff in the darkness below Forgehome. As my companions and I made their way down to the cliffs edge and secured ropes to begin the dissent we heard Mizr mumble something about “surface dwellers” and she scuttled down the cliff like a spider- useful trick- I thought to myself. As Adrik made his way down the rope a volley of arrows or crossbow bolts flew out of the darkness at the party, a couple of us were struck by the good as invisible projectiles with Adrik descending the rope taking a majority of hits that nearly caused him to plummet to the sharp rocks below. But he managed to keep his grip and make it safely to cover. I saw that going down the rope would just make me an easier target. So I bid my time knowing that our “tag-along” tinkerer would do something interesting and he didn’t disappoint me, he conjured a swirling blue vortex beside him and stepped through an identical one on the ledge below where Mizr was now standing and shouting both directions and throwing daggers at the enemies. I stepped through the vortex and found myself below arrows skittering off the walls behind me, Mizr called out the positions and described our assailants, winged Kobolds’ with a skeletal dragon emblazoned on their armor, were the cause of our trouble and I would take great pleasure in shattering them into oblivion, but they were just out of range for most of my magic.
I summoned forth the elements and coated my hand in frost and swept it towards where the Kobold was. Judging from the startled cry of pain my spell found its mark and I knew that it could not move from that spot, I instructed Thingobrind to cast a light spell on the next bolt that Mizr’ sent in the Kobolds’ direction. The glowing bolt struck home in the Kobolds’ thigh illuminating it and the other winged pests in the vicinity. They stayed just out of reach of my remaining spells so I decided to have one ready to blast them once they got near enough to strike. Adrick had taken cover behind some sharp stalagmites and was unable to get into the fray but was warding off our wounds well enough Kildrak joined us on the ledge and began hurling hammers. Thangobrind then chanted something I believe I had heard Lhankor chant before and a familiar haze erupted in the midst of the Kobolds’, they began to fall asleep and plummet into the dark depths. The depth must unfathomable as we never heard the impact of flesh on the bottom of the ravine even after the last Kobold, gravely wounded, fled the battle.
Now we continue to pick out way down the cliff when Thangobrind mentions in his annoying way that he can conjure a platform that could lower us the remainder of the way. I am slightly worried about the possibility of plummeting into the abyss as those Kobolds’ did, but at least it won’t take weeks to descend the Cliffs of Everendies. Wish us luck
