After the Storm Legion was finished with the town council they decided that the next thing was to find a use their dragon skin and other bits that they collected from the green dragon they had slain a few days past. First stop was Mendis Falcon who suggested that the skin might be a base component in designing a predator’s skin but the art of creating magical items has been lost to him. He also mentioned that Vondal Malgrim has some alchemical knowledge and might be able to brew a potion, and Na-Rook could craft some fine non-magical items from the remains. Griffo decided that maybe the best solution would be to meet with all three artisans at once. He sent word to all three to join them at the Blue Boar Tavern from some drink and food. Soon Na-Rook, Vondal, and Mendis arrived. Their drink of choice and a freshly baked loaf of bread and cheese were waiting for them with the Storm Legion. After some small talk the party got down to business, first approaching Na-Rook asking what he could make out of the skins. He eyed and mulled over of the skins and thought that he could make three sets of fine hide armor. Griffo asked Na-Rook if he knew the secret to designing lancing and resonating daggers and if he could use the dragon’s hard teeth for base of these. He said it could be done, though it was expensive work, Griffo did not hesitate to provide the gold needed. Strangely quite for most of this conversation Vondal, who had been concentrating on the dragon’s gizzard spoke up, “it might be possible for me to make a great potion out of that gizzard, why I believe that it could give you the power to breath a poisonous gas similar to the one exhale by this green dragon for a short time.” The Storm Legion thought that this would be a great potion to have and agreed to pay for his services. With all business done Na-Rook and Vondal left to get started on their craft.
With majority of the dragon now put to use the party decided to figure out a plan for their strike on the kobold lair. Griffo mentioned that maybe the could collapse a majority of the tunnels thus ending the koblod threat for a good length of time and would allow Silvermont to come up with a permanent solution. He asked Abderus what he would know about mining or taking out support structures at what point Mendis mentioned that, “if you want to know about mining there is no finer dwarf then that fellow over there”, and he pointed to a drunken dwarf in the corner humming along with his ale. Griffo patted Abderus on the back(well more like leg), said good luck, and left before the half-orc could get him to pay for his expected huge tab. With Mort and Perion in tow Abderus headed over to make his introduction. The gruff dwarf asked what he was doing which Abderus stated he was drinking. Abderus then offered up a game, a drink for information about kobold mines and how to collapse them. Thus began an interesting few hours where Perion, Mort, and Abderus got to know the locals better. Unfortunately by the time Abderus received enough information about how to collapse a mine he was thoroughly drunk, only Mort made it out unscathed…who left shortly before the slumped over bodies of Abderus and Perion, to escape the tab himself. When Griffo inquired about what information they had received Mort just rubbed his head and shrugged.
As it was starting to get into evening Mort and Griffo deceiced to take some of the advice from the dwarf and try to get some alchemist’s fire from Vondal’s Phantasmagoria and to check up on how Vondal was coming with his potion. Seeing that it was closed they tapped on the door and Vondal left them in. He had five flasks of alchemist fire that he was able to part with. With these secured Griffo asked Vondal about how much longer it should take. Vondal said it would be about 15 minutes and they could wait if they wanted, with a little reluctance they agreed. About two and half hours later when the potion still wasn’t done Mort and Griffo decided to join the rest of the party for some foodstuffs. After some dicing games the party decided to get some rest before their big trip to the Valthune Mountains the next morning. During the night there was some rapping on Griffo’s door… startling him awake. It was a good thing that the voice introduced himself as Griffo was just about to blast him but it was Vondal with the potion. Griffo thanked him and told him good night, Vondal clearly excited wanted to continue talking about his trials but Griffo really wanted some sleep and shut the door in Vondal’s face.
Early the next morning after some grumbling from Perion and Abderus the Storm Legion set off to tackle the kobold problem. The town guard led them to kobold mounds that were uses as the staging point for their recent attach against Silvermont and then said their farewells, wishing them luck. With Abderus in the lead and Perion’s magical songs the party found the travel pleasant and quick until they reached the mountains proper, at which point they carefully started acceding the the Valthunes. Abderus was able to crawl up with no issues and tied a rope behind him for Perion to hold on to. Griffo was able to follow Mort’s advance to an extent but the extended travel started to get to him and he began to falter, so Abderus snatched him up and tied him to Hermes. Soon enough the skies opened up and sheets of cold hard rain poured from the open black skies. As lighting started striking around Griffo’s already spiky hiar raised to the heavens in anticipation. Zarn suggested that the try to find shelter soon as it seems they have a conduit for lighting in their mix. As it happens the ground started to mellow out and the open maw of a cave greeted them, with the kobold tracks leading into it. The party dismounted and prepared to enter the darkness.
As the darkness encroached Griffo pawed for his everburning torch and held it aloft once he could see no more. The Storm Legion made their way down the now-lit halway, it appeared to be worked stone, though Abderus could tell that it was not properly supported as a proper mine should have been. The taller party members had to duck to avoid knocking their head on the ceiling. Again Abderus lead with Hermes taking the wall. Soon they came to an opening of sorts, Zarn crept ahead to cast a light spell into the dimly lit cavern.
As the light expanded from the glowing nimbus the shapes of kobolds and kruthiks appeared, seemingly waiting to ambush the party. Zarn let lose a quick magic missle and the fight was on. Abderus ran in to start the slaughter and when Hermes came to join him he narrowly missed falling into a pit trap. Griffo blew away a few kobolds and was repaid with a dragonshield stabbing him. Overall the party quickly dispatched their foes. They attempted to reason with the last kobold which had fallen in the pit trap but all it did was curse at them and pray for death, which the party supplied.
After a short rest Abderus suggested they take the route to the right. As he took a few steps toward the corridor a large boulder feel from the ceiling and he was barely able to get out the way before it struck the floor of the room. Undaunted he marked the wall with chalk and the party left to continue their journey into the kobold lair.
