Ramblings from Kildrak Stoneheart
As we were gathering our bearing to figure out where to head next a light wind picked up and started to swirl the fog and mist that filled this portion of the cavern and we noticed that the air was filled with earthen motes just hovering in the air connected by a series of bridges in every direction. Realizing that we needed to get near the other side of the cavern, we took this opportunity to head in that direction and see if it would make our path easier. While carefully navigating the bridges between the motes we heard a loud clunking sound off to our left and Mizr’setah Menotherian was able to see what looked like a huge cage slowly being lifted. To the right it is then!
To our right we quickly ran into a series of spider webs, and the moment we touched them a giant bristly, quill covered spider crawled up and dumped an apothecary’s worth of hindering effects Mizr’setah. I charged forward to lend a hand, but was also quickly locked down just as the spiders brood launched into the attack. Luckily, with the help of the rest of the party we were able to quickly take down these disgusting beasts, and even though Mizr’setah is typically very fond of spiders, she found that protecting her own life was more important that saving the spiders.
I then advanced forward cautiously and brought out 2 more giant spiders and their brood. Once again they assaulted us with poisons that greatly affected our ability to fight effectively, especially the blinding effects. Luckily this time I was standing right in the middle of the fray and was able to lay into the beasts despite my lack of mobility. In the end, it was Misr’setah who while blinded was able to throw a deadly accurate dagger right into an eye of the last spider to bring it down. Truly amazing, and a story that I expect to recount to Perion de la Foret in the future to have it made into a fitting tune.
With the spiders apparently defeated we checked around for anyone who might have been unfortunate to run into them previously that we could rescue. With the support of my comrades I launched myself from the mote we were on to a nearby one that looked like their nest. Unfortunately, I did not find any survivors there, but within one of the chrysalis’ that I searched I found a gorgeous set of Gith plate armor that during our rest after the fight I decided to try on and wouldn’t you know it, it was a perfect fit. Seeing as how the previous owner is unfortunately no longer with us, may Moradin watch over his family, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind if I used it to further our righteous endeavors.
