Pact of the Ancients
Good, Former high ranking agent of the Horn, Infernal Prince of Cania, smug, has entitlement issues
I am an Infernal prince of Cania hence my surname and my proficiency with the cold, up until very recently I was very proud of the fight I had been engaging in to bring the kingdom of Bael Turath back to its former glory. I was a high ranking member of the Horn of Geryon privy to much if not all of the movements of its forces and the plans that are in motion… well that was until my comrade and long time rival Gyyrune was defeated at Geldrums Tower. The rumors were that a small adventuring party came across the operation and after fleeing from the overwhelming odds returned leading a large force of the warmongering Talons down upon it, it was a crushing loss for our cause. Months later Gyyrune appeared during a meeting of the commanders of the Horn like he had never left, but changed in a way I cannot describe. He spoke of a new weapon for our campaign to conquer the First Work and I was given the task of setting it into motion.
I traveled to the city of Cerdan and set in motion events that I now regret. This weapon was an infernal plague that through arcane magic’s would target the enemies of the Horn and wreak havoc among them. However the plague was not so easily controlled and soon began to infect not only our enemies but our own forces as well. Surely we cannot look to use a weapon that has as much of a chance of destroying the Horn as leading it to victory that way of thought is folly. I traveled back to Tyrrn and confronted Gyyrune about reversing the effects of the plague to keep it from spreading in our forces. Gyyrune simply smiled and said “it does not matter the whole of the First Work is destroyed the Kingdom of Bael Turath shall be built from your bones”. As I stood there measuring the words I saw him for what he truly was then, a sudden shock sent me flying, a blinding pain in my head, then I saw him standing over me laughing, A devilish fiend to my eyes as he conjured dark flames and slammed them into my chest. “Your death will feed my cause, yes you will serve me well in un-death” his demented cackle rang in my head as all went black.
Left for dead in the temple where I had confronted him I was found and taken to a healer in Tyrrn by Wyjen, after dragging me back from deaths door I was condemned to a small ramshackle house with the family of common born Teiflings. I would normally have had them flayed alive for the crime of touching me but given the outcome of recent events… In my wounded stupor I had visions of the future or at least what I perceived to be visions of the future, this plague, if left unchecked would destroy the entirety of the First Work. During one of my more lucid periods with the common folk I told them of my heritage and how I vowed to bring the Bael Turath kingdom back to glory once again.
The Commoners scoffed at the notion, they told me of how the First work was better off without either of the old kingdoms waging war with one another. They now worshiped the goddess Nusemnee, a symbol of redemption and hoped that one day they could just be done with the stigma that has been put on all Tieflings. While resting that night I was visited by a vision of Nusemnee and was shown the true error of my ways. Wyjen had deep ties with the resistance in Tyrrn and after my divine intervention I offered the information I had on the Horn’s movements and plans that I knew of as a show of faith. That’s where I met Arandur, I told him of my plans to enhance my powers as a warlock to help in the fight against the Horn, I would need to forge a Blade of Annihilation with the life force of a devil to forge the infernal essences and harness their power. Knowing I would be a great ally in this fight Arandur offered to help with my task.
After re-equipping, we traveled to a base of the Horn that I knew of to the north and west of Tyrrn near the swamps. There we used a summoning circle there to bring forth a powerful devil by the name of Guirzithak, it had aligned with Gyyrune to destroy The First Work. Arandur and I then beset the devil mortally wounding him, I then used my powers as a warlock to deliver the final blow. I channeled his life essence to forge my own Blade of Annihilation to increase my power and give me the strength to defeat Gyyrune the next time we meet. Arandur told me of his friends and the fight they had been engaged in before they were separated over a year ago. Arandur had since become a high ranking member in the resistance, communication had been scarce with his old friends but he did know of their movements, they were the involved with the Battle of Geldrums Tower. They were lead by a gnome bard named Perion and his good friend Kildrak was still with them as well. They had enlisted the help of a dragonborn Paladin that worshiped Kord, who has heavy ties to the Talon.
Arandur’s last information on their movements had them on the western side of the Valthune Mountains in the Northwest, very near to an operation of the Horn, one that I know well. I set out with a letter from Arandur for Perion and Kildrak, there are tunnels that lead deep into the mountains where the Horn uses the Duragar to mine resources and summon devils to fight and carry forth Gyyrunes agenda. I know of a way in there and if they are going where I think they are; it is also my destination, Gyyrune has a stronghold there and I intend to make it his tomb.
I must use any means at my disposal to stop him and his plans even if it means allying myself with the war mongering Talons, I would fight side by side with the Crownblade himself if need be. I must redeem my people and as Nusemnee’s teaching say it is never too late to seek redemption, and I will redeem my people and myself from this evil stigma that we have been cursed with. However I still have the dark desires of an infernal prince and I constantly feel them urging me to claim what is mine by rights, the servitude of all those lesser than me and the rule over Cania.
After making my way into the tunnels near the stronghold I came across a lone Tiefling raider, I dispatched him and took his uniform. I bluffed my way into the stronghold claiming to be a new recruit, and it paid off; Gyyrune was here. Now all I need to do is wait for Kildrak and his allies to show up and I’ll have my chance at defeating Gyyrune and getting answers on how to stop this plague.
