After dusting themselves off from the latest onslaught of kobold adversaries the Storm Legion decided to inspect this very large natural cavern, Mort was sure that Unicorns were certain to hide in the corners. To cover distance the party decided to split into three groups and wondered forward. Nothing happened to Griffo…not even a stubbed toe due to his trusty ever-burning torch. Mort was just the same, though disappointed about the lack of unicorns. The rest of the party was not so lucky though as suddenly they were snatched up by their necks at an yet unseen force.
Started by the screams of the party Griffo and Mort raced to help them with Griffo lifting both of them in the air. When they floated closer to edge about 20 feet above the ground they could see a group of insecticidal creatures who had snared the party with a filament extruding from their nose. As Abderus was getting ready to be fed to the young Mort and Griffo used this opportunity to strike the unsuspecting parent, which caused it to lose control of Abderus and he tumbled down to the cavern floor. Zarn let lose with a volley of magic missiles then cast he light on what he identified as cave fishers before he transported a safe distance away. Perion was able cut the filament and tumbled down as well. These cave fishers would not back down however and spat a sloppy goo at party, burning them and hampering movement. Abderus had a particular bad of it as he kept getting snatched and tumbled over and over. By the end of the battle he was bruised and beaten, but had not been bitten once by the cave fishers.
Once these creatures were dispatched Griffo noticed a pair of bracers on the bones of a kobold victim. Sensing great power in them he quickly claimed them before anyone else. When Zarn had a chance to inspect them he told Griffo that he didn’t quite like aura and strange runes on them and urged Griffo to take them off until he had a chance to inspect them further. Griffo knew that he was just jealous and refused to listen to the stuffy eladrin. Only seeing one exit from the cavern the party crept forward.
Soon they could feel a great heat in front of them and the unmistakable dancing hue of fire. Mort decided to check it out himself. He sneaked up to the edge of the hallway and peaked his head around. He saw a giant statue flanked by brazers. The status was of some horrible devil or beast that had a snake torso, six arms and a human head. In one of the hands was a war horn with the beast ready to blow it. Also there were three tieflings with the one in the center muttering in some strange language. In front of the tieflings Mort could see the forms of two spined devils forming from mid air. He motioned for the rest of the party to join him. Once Griffo got a look at the tieflings he sprung out from behind the wall and nonchalantly said, " Korivosh, I presume?"
Korivosh and his honor guard turned to greet the party. “So you know who I am”, he chuckled, “Well it matters not, at least you know the name of your killer it would be dreadful to die without.” Griffo balked at Korivosh’s rebuke, “Too bad for all of your kobold friends then, and too bad for you!” Korivosh took a step back, “Well it appears that your small friend is trying make up for something with his big words.” Perion, trying to cool down the situation pandered to Korivosh’s ego, “Please ignore him, full of bluster he often gets himself in trouble. Since we going to die soon shouldn’t we know why. Surely once we are in hell your masters would enjoy hearing about your exploits from the very foes you dispatched.” Korivosh considered, “Just know that the forces against you and civilization are great, soon darkness and nightmares will dance across Endisa. Nothing you can do will stop this, the wheels have been in motion even before your eladrin here was born. I will spare your the details, for I want to kill you with your mind intact.”
Korivosh laughed and shot a gout of flame at Mort immolating him. Griffo screamed and let lose a thuderious blast at Korivosh pulling him closer to the party. Abderus followed up with two arrows, both striking true. Power erupted from Zarn as bolts of energy formed easily in his hand, he sent a rolling ball of lightning towards Korivosh. The party could tell that tell that Korivosh had clearly underestimated them. Perion used his enchanting songs to once again slide Korivosh and his minions in a tight bundle. At what point Griffo interjected with a lance of lightning aimed squarely at Korivosh. As it hit Griffo said, “I guess you will have to tell your masters yourself.” Korivosh collapsed and the energy from the bolt nailed his surrounding allies. Even without their master they fought on, cornering Mort they guy him deeply. It was not enough to take down the half-orc though as he called on the power of the mountain to hold his ground. He beat back with fierce blows from his hammer. The spined devils had taken flight and started ejecting their poisonous barbs at the party, focusing on Zarn. Unable to take the poison Zarn quickly collapsed. With no one able to help him the party knew they had to quickly end this flight or else they would lose their friend. Focusing their remaining fire the party swept through the remaining enemies. Though it was not easy, Zarn was able to be stabilized…still unconscious though.
Happy that the kobold lair was finished. The remaining party members then had a chance to inspect the statue. On it they found a riddle. It said;
Stronger than Tiamat
And more mighty than Asmodeus
The richest man desires it
The poorest man has it
And if a mortal eats this, they will perish.
Speak its name.
Griffo thought about it for a moment. Step forward and said, “Nothing.”
The statue pulsed a wicked violet color, swivelled 180 degrees, and a small hallway opened up behind it.
