Clandor the dwarven merchant pulled a mystic adviser into his office to decode the glyphs on the petrified aboleth egg to reveal an inscription regarding Deepreach. By consulting the Duegar mining maps we were able to discern the likely location of Deepreach.
With another wyvern and potions of waterbreathing we were on our way.
After we left Maelbrathyr we got to see how good the training was on our wyverns. Ribberjack and the others did great! It was super fantastic to fly over all that terrain instead of walking. Of course the modifications that I made for Mizzy and I for our shared mount did not hurt either.
We made it back to the dig site that the grey dwarf spoke to us before we left him go. Success! When Kildrak and myself inspected the walls in the back we noticed that there was some ancient worked stone. Could this be from Deepreach? It appeared so. There was a few ways for us to get past this wall; one was some fallen stairs that would lead deeper into what appears to be a tower, else we could widen a window which looks like it drops off into a valley on the otherside. Clearly we needed to blow up the window, while I am about history explosions are much better. Everyone else cleared the room while i set the explosion…and I set the fuse slightly too short. Ouch! I will not make that mistake again. Luckily the work was sound and we were able to fit our wyvern friends through the gap. One of us suggested to goop up with the darkvision. I am glad we did as the view was great! We left the side of the tower and could see a huge lake 100s of feet below us. There were towers everywhere. Too much to explore now but maybe I could come back later. Finally we found a promising tower, it looked wider and in better shape than the others. There was a spot to land our mounts and we went in to take a look. Nothing at first but there appeared to be a stairwell on the level below. Using some fancy rope work and more explosives(careful this time) we were able to get our wyverns in a fairly safe area while we went the rest of the way on foot.
It soon became clear that we would need to start an aquatic journey. Luckily our noble friend gave us some potions of waterbreathing, bingo! Swimming through these ancient ruins is really something else. We could tell that we were being watched though and soon this fear was realized as we were set upon by some invisible gooish creatures. They were not much of a threat, almost like something was testing our defenses. Soon after we breached into a small cavern and fought a second layer of defenders. This was a little more of a battle but we still managed to take them out.
The next breach we had(after swimming by countless treasures) we met the creature responsible for probing us, an aboleth. Eons old and an uncanny evil intelligence this is truly an epic foe. The abberation slunk into our minds as easy as seperating a fingle-crank from a swizzy-swack. From this probing she seemed to indicate some knowledge of the dracolich we had fought earlier. Extra attention was spent on these memories. Thinking quickly I thought maybe we could escape the encounter without shedding blood. She seemed ok with this. Agreeing to give us free passage in Deepreach and the location of the dwarven artifact, which the dragon is using as a power source. This news gives Kildrak and Adrik more energy to recover this item.
With the aboleth’s blessing we again submerged and followed the mind path layed out for us. It was super creepy to have implanted memories but it did save a bunch of time. After a while we came to a room these strange bowels with different colors of oils dripping into them. After studying them a while and talking with Adrik we came to the conclusion that this must be the blood of the fallen god, a volatile substance that can grant visions and heightened awareness. But if mixed wrong it can also kill you. The reward was too great to ignore and with some minor mishaps we found a few combinations that worked out well. Each of us had various visions of what appeared to be the future.
Kildrak saw a vision of Moradin speaking in tongues about a holy quest to secure his proper place in the cosmos.
Thango saw a vision of a city in the clouds with air ships and a battle with the fallen plummeting from the sky
a vision of Githyanki pirate ship flying through the ether toward a planet of active volcanos
Swapped places with Lhakor for a moment to discover the city of Cerdan under siege by a zombie army
Adrik saw into the past of Deepreach when it was a bustling trading post that houses the hammer of Morodin
Mizzy saw mind flayers were conspiring with an enemy city state of Drow .
Gesh was flexing in a world crushing way.
After various visions we moved on to what appeared to be a vault. And we were not alone, the ancient guardians would not allow us free passage.
