Storm Legion members present – Abderus, Griffo, Mort, Raggar and Vash
The beginning adventures of “The Storm Legion” (name submitted for copyright approval by members of said legion, as told, witnessed and interpreted by Abderus Mok’Nathal, Half Orc beast master ranger.
It was the 13th day of Hightale in the year 987 of the Calendar of Ashram. The day was beautiful, the sun shining as the fey carnival was in full swing just outside Silvermont. There were games of strength at caber tossing that saw Morthos “Mort” Graisson set a new record (critical success) and Abderus successfully toss the caber, while Raggar Bloodbane failed to meet the mark and Griffo Weatherbee almost had the caber fall on top of him (critical fail). There were games of dexterity climbing up a rope and ringing a bell and even though they would not let Hermes (Abderus trusted spider companion) participate, Abderus and successfully rung the bell though making 2 successes and earning him some coin in his otherwise empty pouch (thank you to Mort for spotting me on the caber toss and having faith) Griffo also was able to ring the bell. Griffo did make up for his caber tossing deficiency though at the chase the pea under the shell game, and the capture territory in chess games. Our success at the games started causing a bit of a commotion in the crowd, as peasants and townsfolk cheered on the winners and jeered and laughed at those who failed, especially those who did so spectacularly. Such a commotion brought forth the leader of this particular carnival troop and Elisandra N’Starra came to speak with the winners herself. She spoke with us, congratulations were spread about and during the course of the conversation, and she bad mouthed Baron Varsod of Tyrrn, talking of political field turning sour over the last few years the baron, a Tiefling leader gaining influence, has been quoted as saying “the Empire of Bael Turath is not dead”
Not long after she was in our midst, a loud scream pitched from one of the tents where the gnome was doing his chase the pea and shell game. The tent emptied, with peasants running in all directions but mostly towards the cover of the town gate. Immediately after the scream and our heads turned, the tent imploded and sunk into the ground, falling into pieces as if shredded, and many creatures (Kruthiks and Kobolds) issued forth from the hole that was created. The Cockatrice and Hippogriff were screeching and cawing something fierce as if they were in a storm or under great distress. Over the next few seconds, 4 more holes erupted, and creatures filled the carnival now with terror and death, as peasants fell to their blades, javelins, and teeth and claw. The Storm Legion was quick to act, Vash leading the way into the fray at the first hole single handed. The rest of us were caught up in different groupings spread out across the battlefield, and so did our best to start shrinking their numbers and turning the tide. It soon became evident their mission was to secure and possibly steal the lady Elisandra for they pushed forth towards her, eventually reaching her, as they practically threw themselves through our lines. 2 of them grabbed her and lifted her, as Kethorn Fyormsin (dwarf leader of the town guard) and his fellow guardsman fell upon them and slew them.
The battle ended, almost as quickly as it started. Some peasants died unfortunately though kudos should be given to the town guard for their quick response as well as their cover fire from the city walls. A quick reconnaissance was made by Hermes and Abderus of the 5 holes, and even though no more Kobolds or Kruthiks were to be found, all the tunnels led to the south and most likely the Dark Thorn Forest, and possibly the female Green Dragon, Kalyxa Dramon, that resides within it. Vash had a terrible time, being out all alone and fell unconscious at one point, quickly revived by Raggar though running across the battlefield to heal him. Griffo at one point was heard to be shouting over the commotion “Please I implore you, do NOT open the cages of the Hippogriff or Cockatrice” and also followed that up moments later with “If anyone is going to open them, it should be, as I am a revered trainer of both the Hippogriff and Cockatrice, and if you open them, you are likely to be eaten” The cages never were opened. Some of the Kobolds were scarred up on their face, which someone said resembled draconic symbols, and since they were draconic in nature, and possibly in service to a dragon, Abderus severed the heads of a kobold with the mark as well as a Kruthik that accompanied it.
They were carried on a javelin, to the sage Mendis Falcon, reported to know of Kobolds and the like, and having a reputation for being a retired spell slinging adventurer of old. Griffo checked around and found what wine he liked and bought a bottle on our way to discuss things with him. as the sun was setting, the dual moons of Setyune and Ghalor were shining full, which normally meant a good omen, yet with the attack, there was a sad mood about town and the strong possibility the carnival would no longer reside and be open. The scars on the Kobolds were reported by Mendis to state that they were in service at one time at least, to the Elder Male Red Dragon, Bale Khara Nalsym, who resides somewhere in the southern volcanoes in the Valthune Mountains. It should also be noted there is a Black Dragon somewhere in the Sea of Ka’Deil, in a coastal cave. It was also discussed that something called an “Under Dark” resides beneath the Black Thunder Vault mine, and has seas where upon the Drow pirates reign as well as An’khegs and other bad things. It was mentioned that precious stones and treasure come from there as well though.
We left the home of Mendis with him going to check on things about Kobolds and Kruthiks working together or something of the sort, and headed back to the Blue Boar Tavern to have a drink. When we arrived, we were met by the charismatic Lord Ormend, a political leader of the privately held town council. He expressed thanks to us for the day, and concern about the green dragon, who seemingly always knows about valuable shipments leaving Silvermont heading south as they are usually always raided. In the end, the Storm Legion was able to secure 40 pieces of gold from the bodies of the Kobolds and Kruthiks, and Abderus was to check on the selling of the equipment of the Kobolds (leather armor, shields, javelins, weaponry, etc.) to see if that treasure total could be improved upon. If the Storm Legions were not to benefit, then the equipment should be used as a way to bolster the stores of Silvermont. Everyone in the party was bloodied at one time or another during the grand battle, but in the end, only minor cuts and scrapes remained as the party finished drinking, eating and heading to bed.
