So the Storm Legion set off down the tunnel that Abderus indicated, using the same marching order as before. After a rather uneventful length of time in this long tunnel Abderus and Mort heard some chanting and saw a small glow in front of them. Wanting to sneak up on them Abderus informed the rest of the group besides Griffo and himself to approach to see what was going on. Unfortunately our hero’s cover was blown and the creatures started barking orders in draconic with high-pitched voices. Soon this small light seemed to glow exponentially and Abderus could clearly see the slender kobold bodies running to intercept the intruders. Abderus ran forward only to be stopped by a set of bars hammered fast into the rock. However, he would not be stopped and was able to slide his body through the bars to start the attack. What he was not expecting was a belch of fire and smoke from the grate in floor. He avoided the fires but could no longer see around him because of the thick smoke. Griffo not seeing a good shot because of the smoke decided to wait until a better shot presented itself, which it did shortly when a javelin stabbed him in his shoulder fired from a small murder hole to his left. He made short work of the kobold who did him wrong though. Perion decided run forth into the frey without a second thought, easily shifting through the metal bars only to be stopped on the other side by the lances of a new kobold to great effect. Zarn using his fey magic teleported into the hidden tunnel and dispatched a unsuspecting kobold. Once the smoke cleared the Legion spied the kobold leader in the back, shaman similar to one that they fought outside the Blue Boar about a week ago. Abderus knew that this had to be his next target. Mort also made his way to this leader with Griffo’s help. Soon using some new techniques and avoiding future fire traps the Storm Legion was able to destroy their foes. This battle did prove to be a vicious one and a short rest with Perion’s healing words were greatly appreciated. After checking the bodies for valuables, clues, and trophies our heroes continued on through the only opening they could find in the southern area of the room.
This next hallway did not prove to be so mundane and Abderus narrowly avoided a pressure switch trap which released a razor sharp spinning blade from the wall. Griffo tried to study the trap to see if he could disarm it but it proved to be fruitless. However, he did enjoy running back and forth in the hallway as the trap seemed to “cut” about his height. After this trap was so excited that he forgot that they were were hunting dangerous creatures and decided instead to tell Zarn how awesome it is to be short. Zarn quickly silenced him as Abderus once saw that the tunnel was opening to a room. After a little consulting Zarn, Perion, and Abderus devised a plan to create a distraction and at the same time shed some light into the room. It worked with the party hearing the yappy kobold voices tossing making a ruckus in the direction of the ‘ghost sound’.
Using this distraction to their advantage Abderus ran into the room with Hermes killing the first kolbold he could see. It appears that this was a heavily armed mining camp as an adult kruthik darted out of the shadows flinging a poisonous barb at Adberus. Soon the rest of the party joined the fray using all of their top powers to tackle this tough group of foes. Just when the party thought they had gained the upper hand a swarm of kobolds fighting in close quarters and started running amok against the party..dealing massive damage and creating chaos. In addition to this one of the kobold lurkers quickly broke rank and made a mad dash for the exit. Mort, knowing that silence was their best defense, quickly gained ground on the poor kobold to end his life before he could spill his secrets. With all but the swarm destroyed the party focused their energy and quickly dispersed and crushed the fighting kobolds.
What will the Storm Legion find next? More swarms, have they been noticed? Find out next time.
