I swore I would never again leave a teammate behind, and we have finally fulfilled that promise regarding Damien as we have reached the prisoners and freed all of them including young Damien. Some of them are so exhausted that they seemed mere hours from death, so we share our provisions and tell them to rest up and prepare for the return to Maelbrathyr the next day. Those who are not as exhausted, including Damien appear deathly afraid of a door in this room that is covered in red leather. Apparently any hostage who has entered that room, never of their own will, has never been seen again. Damien also lets us know about another room that he has seen the duregar entering through a hidden door. Upon further investigation we find the door, and the treasure and vile idols stashed within. Among the treasure is a petrified aboleth egg covered in old dwarven etching, perhaps this is a clue to the location of DeepReach. There is also a belt of giant strength that immediately catches the eye of both me and Adrik, and when we discuss it more we realize that my belt of sacrifice would serve him much better than me and I trade that to him in place of the new belt. As a thank you to Damien for showing us this door we give him a 10% finder’s fee, which probably makes him the richest street kid anywhere.
After ransacking the treasure of the vile creatures, and a quick debate, we decide to check out the red leather door. Mizr investigates the door and find a trap which she is able to disable. Using the finely honed senses fitting for a rogue she hears some motion behind the door, which allows me to prepare and then kick in the door and attack immediately. The duregar near the door prove to be little trouble, however duregar are not the only thing waiting for us in the room. A carrion crawler manages to grab ahold of Mizr and tries to eat her. This battle would be easy if we weren’t nearly spent from the unyielding march through the duregar on the way here. In a crazed attack Gesh hits the crawler, but gets Mizr thrown into the blood pool in the middle of the room, and she barely makes it out of it.
Tired, bloodied, and pissed off after this combat, we have 2 duregar that surrendered who we question. Thango tried to kill them without questioning them, and in a fit of rage I just throw him against the wall of the room. I will need to find a time to apologize to him for my fit of rage later. The first duregar we question tells us nothing, so we kill him and begin questioning the other one. This has motivated him to talk and we get a lot of great information out of him, including where the aboleth egg was found, and where they are getting the young dragon eggs from. We take a long rest and begin to prepare for the return to Maelbrathyr.
